Longboi convertible on BaT. I’d prefer a red interior, but this is a real nice cruiser.
A little weird that the top is manual (maybe a power top that doesn’t work?), and the trans is a 3 speed (listing incorrect).
This would be a lot of fun to drive to the beach in the summer!

What do you think? $5,000?

Me too. I love the early to mid-60s full sized convertibles. So much style.

Oh hell no- if it’s that low at the end, I’ll buy it myself.
I’d say around $20k.

I love virtually everything coming out of Detroit in the ‘60s, but *especially* GM’s full sized cars from ‘61-65.

Oh man, that is cherry. Maybe n o power to the roof, but the antenna is powered.
It’s at $2K now. What are the chances it stays affordable over the next 7 days?

If you look at picture 77 of the dash, I think that the far right lever (ACC) was for the top. I would have thought that the top of the line Buick had a power top standard. Probably disconnected because it was broken at some point.
I think it’s easily a $20k car - far from perfect, but it’s a nice driver. As I mentioned to someone else, if it’s still cheap at the end, I’ll buy it (but that won’t happen).

I just asked my wife if it stayed cheap enough and I bought it, would she be okay with me flying out to Oregon to drive it home.
She laughed and rolled her eyes in that way that tells me I probably shouldn’t explain that I wasn’t kidding.
I don’t need it perfect; I just like that they seem to have kept it up. I love that blue interior they redid. It’s no Olds, but it’d still put a smile on my face.

Besides getting the wife’s permission, you better measure your garage, too. It’s nearly 19 feet long.
I dream of the day I do something like that- buy an old convertible online, fly out, drive it back. Would be an epic road trip - good or bad.
One kicker is that I really like Olds engines better than Buick - but Olds used a transmission that’s a complete PITA in this time frame.

That’s the thing, it’d never fit in the garage. I’d have to cover it and keep it outside.
I would so do that road trip. I wouldn’t even have to think about it, just plan it. All I’d need is the money. Maybe I could rent out that trunk to a small family to make the cash...

I think the best and most under appreciated American boats are the early 60s cars. The long low styling is amazing, esp. the Buick/Olds/Pontiac cars. My dream garage would be filled with lots of vintage imports a nd one big American boat from the early sixties.

They really are. And they’re a lot cheaper than the ‘64++ mid sized cars, too - as long as you avoid Chevrolets (and frankly the BOP cars were way better than Chevy s anyways)

That car deserves a garage, though.
And - “plan it”? Nah - just get in the car and go!

Love these Buicks. Ye ars ago I had a worn out 65 Wildcat coupe with the 401 and 3 speed auto. Fantastic car.

That far right lever (Acc) switched from AM to FM on the radio in my 66.

Hm I hadn’t heard of that use for it before, but it was a switch used for different things, so not that surprised. I’m pretty sure at least some GM convertibles had a power top switch labeled ACC during this period. Don’t recall what the switch in my 65 Skylark was labeled.
I just find it weird that an Electra would have a manual top.

I seem to remember cars like this really not getting premium pricing.

I had a 1968 Electra hard top, certainly at the top of the heap for boats. The convertible is much more desirable for me, it would be a fantastic cruiser.

They don’t get premium pricing - big Buicks and Oldsmobiles are relatively cheap compared to most classics . But these days, $20k isn’t premium pricing for a convertible. Heck, this car would probably get $10k if it was a 4 door sedan.

It deserves my bedroom, but it won’t fit there either.

Fair point. Can I ride in the back on this imaginary roadtrip?
I’m pretty sure there’s room.

I’ll pay for gas. That way by the time we get to your place in Texas (right?) I will have at least 50% ownership of the car.

HOT TUB!
![]() 10/03/2018 at 11:16 |

Yeah - and 4 in a pinch, I’m sure.
I had a ‘64 Olds 88 a long time ago, and could lay down flat on the front bench seat (I’m 5' 9"). And that car had an enormous trunk - but smaller than this Electra.

I’m thinking that hot tub will also fit 6 comfortably. Maybe 8 if everyone is friendly.

We can install a mini fridge and flat screen in the trunk for you. We’ll pound on the lid when we’re there.

You’ll pay for gas! ? Didn’t know millionaires were hiding out in Montana. Is Warren Buffet’s summer cottage next to yours?

I’m claustrophobic, but I don’t think that will be an issue in that car. Throw a queen sized mattress in there too, and I’ll be fine.
